Just days before the start of the 2026 World Cup, concerns are growing around England’s future base camp. A shooting broke out overnight from Friday to Saturday in Kansas City, only a few miles from the facilities that will host the Three Lions during the tournament.
The World Cup is getting off to a dramatic start in the United States. Switzerland recently discovered venomous snakes near its training base, while three other nations now face security concerns in Kansas City. Argentina and the Netherlands have also chosen the city as their base camp for the competition, alongside England.
Security Concerns in Kansas City
According to local authorities, nine people were injured in the incident. Fortunately, none of the victims are believed to be in life-threatening condition. Police have confirmed, however, that no suspects have been arrested so far and that the investigation remains ongoing.
For now, the England national team is not directly affected. Thomas Tuchel’s squad is continuing its preparations in Florida and is not expected to arrive in Kansas City until June 13.
The situation is nevertheless attracting attention as several major World Cup contenders prepare to settle in the city, including Lionel Messi’s Argentina. Officials will be hoping for a swift resolution to reassure teams and supporters ahead of the tournament.
