Mohamed Salah experienced a tremendous night with Egypt. The Pharaohs secured their qualification for the World Cup round of 16 after a nerve-wracking match against Australia, decided on penalties.
After a 1-1 draw at the end of regular time and extra time, Egypt finally made the difference in the shootout, winning 4-2. A historic success, as the Egyptian national team will play in the first round of 16 in its World Cup history.
A historic achievement for Egypt and Salah
For Mohamed Salah, this moment carries a very special meaning. Even while physically limited, the Egyptian forward gave everything for his country. After the match, the former Liverpool player did not hide his emotion.
“Today was one of the most beautiful days of my life. Writing history with the team, trying to give my best despite my injury… I do it for my country,” said Mohamed Salah.
Egypt will now face a huge challenge. The Pharaohs will take on Argentina on Tuesday in Atlanta, with a highly anticipated showdown between Mohamed Salah and Lionel Messi. A monumental clash for an Egyptian side already dreaming of writing a new chapter in its history.
