Zinédine Zidane has made his choice. While France prepare to face Senegal in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup, the legendary former captain will not be in the stands to support Didier Deschamps’ squad.
Zidane will not be at MetLife Stadium cheering on Les Bleus. Instead, he will be in Kansas City. According to L’Équipe, the French icon has decided to attend the match between Argentina and Algeria. The reason is simple: his son, Luca Zidane, is set to play his very first World Cup match for the Algerian national team.
Zidane Chooses Family Over Les Bleus
With both matches scheduled only a few hours apart, it was practically impossible for the former France number 10 to attend both games. The tight schedule forced him to make a decision.
For Zidane, the choice of the heart ultimately prevailed. Although his legacy will forever be linked to the French national team, he will be supporting Algeria on this occasion as his son experiences a historic moment in his career.
It will undoubtedly be a very special occasion for the former World Cup winner, who will experience the match with a completely different kind of emotion than he usually feels while watching France. There will be time to focus on Les Bleus again in August.
