Zinedine Zidane will indeed be the next coach of the French national team. But when? The FFF is putting together a timed and respectful schedule… for Didier Deschamps.
There is no question of pushing Didier Deschamps out the day after the World Cup. And for good reason, the Blues could very well win the competition. This would delay the announcement of Zizou.
According to Le Parisien, the FFF and Zidane are making progress behind the scenes. A few details remain to be settled — particularly regarding equipment contracts — but the trend is clear: Zidane should be announced with the Blues after the 2026 World Cup, and not before.
“Soon, I hope!”
This is a choice embraced by the Federation, which wants to allow Didier Deschamps to finish his last major tournament in peace, without any shadow or pressure surrounding his succession. And possibly consider a small celebration in case of another title. Logically, an announcement at the end of July or the beginning of August would therefore be in the works, in order to launch the Blues in September.
Zizou himself is gradually dropping hints. “Soon, I hope!” he said in recent days. Four years after leaving Real Madrid, the French icon is preparing for his return… and everything points to the French national team.
In summary: Zidane is getting closer, the path is laid out… but the reign will only begin after 2026. The Blues already know who is waiting for them.
