Lamine Yamal, one of FC Barcelona’s standout performers, is set to extend his contract with the Catalan club.
At just 17 years old, the right-winger has impressed the entire Barcelona management with his remarkable season. After a meeting between his agent Jorge Mendes and club president Joan Laporta, both sides reached an almost total agreement. The final deal is expected to be signed this Tuesday, extending Yamal’s contract until 2031.
An evolving contract, in line with his status
Yamal’s new contract, which was initially set to expire in 2026, will be worth 9 million euros annually, with a progressive increase that could reach up to 18 million euros by the end of the deal. This model, inspired by Lionel Messi’s rise, reflects Barcelona’s ambition to make Yamal one of its future cornerstones, while also balancing the club’s delicate financial situation.
A strategic bet with financial challenges
FC Barcelona, still under pressure with its wage bill, had to juggle these financial constraints to offer Yamal this contract. Extending the young prodigy’s deal may require renegotiations with other club stalwarts like Ter Stegen or Lewandowski. However, for the management, this is a crucial strategic move: to build the club’s future around Yamal while managing financial tensions.
