It’s over for Maxime d’Ornano. SM Caen announced on Monday the dismissal of its coach, just a few days after the humiliating elimination against Bayeux (2-3), a team from Regional 1, in the 7th round of the Coupe de France.
This defeat was the last straw for the club’s management, owned by Kylian Mbappé. Already struggling in the league with a 10th place in National 1 after 15 matches, the coach did not survive this poor run.
Gaël Clichy on the bench?
In its statement, the club explained that it wants to “engage a new sporting dynamic” for the second half of the season, while thanking Maxime d’Ornano for his work and commitment.
And Caen did not take long to appoint Gaël Clichy as his replacement. “Stade Malherbe Caen announces the arrival of Gaël Clichy as the head coach of its professional team. A former French international, he will bring to the Club his experience at the highest level, his knowledge of modern football, and his daily demands. He will be accompanied by Marvin Esor, who will join the current coaching staff, which remains unchanged,” stated the Normandy club.
