Viktor Gyökeres is set to leave Sporting CP this summer after forcing the club to lower their transfer demands.
The prolific Swedish striker, who bagged 54 goals in 52 matches, was growing frustrated by Sporting’s insistence on a fee over €80 million, despite a prior verbal agreement around €60–70M.
Tensions, threats… and victory According to Sky Germany, the 27-year-old even threatened to go on strike, prompting the Portuguese club to back down. Sporting will now accept offers slightly above €60M — a price much more in line with the market.
Race is on: 5 clubs in pursuit
With the green light given, the battle for Gyökeres has officially begun. Five clubs are now seriously in the race: Arsenal, Manchester United, Atlético Madrid, Juventus, Al-Hilal (big salary on the table).
PSG out of the picture
Once interested, Paris Saint-Germain has withdrawn from the race. That leaves the door open for a Premier League or La Liga move… unless the Saudi millions tip the scales. Let the bidding war begin.
