Olympique Lyonnais is tightening the belt—especially when it comes to its players’ paychecks. Whether the club ends up in Ligue 1 or Ligue 2 next season, a major financial shift is underway.

According to L’Équipe, starting next season, Lyon will no longer be able to afford salaries above €200,000 per month. A firm decision by the club’s new leadership aiming to stabilize the finances.

Last season, OL’s wage bill reached €160 million. That figure is expected to drop dramatically to €89 million, as outlined in the documents submitted to the DNCG (French football’s financial watchdog).

Strict salary cap: €89 million max

From now on, Lyon’s management will have to build a competitive squad with a strictly defined budget. The upcoming transfer window promises to be more strategic than flashy, marking the beginning of a new era for the club.

It’s the end of overspending—discipline and long-term planning are the new pillars of the OL model.
