Could Neymar really join Olympique de Marseille? What started as a far-fetched rumor from Spanish outlet Fichajes has now taken a surprising turn, thanks to new information from TyC Sports, a much more reliable source in South America.
At 33, Neymar returned to Brazil in January to rejoin his boyhood club Santos — but things haven’t gone to plan. With disappointing performances, a club stuck in the relegation zone, and increasing criticism from fans, Neymar is reportedly already considering a way out, according to TyC Sports.
And the shock candidate to welcome him? None other than Marseille.
A move that would shake French football
Given Neymar’s history with PSG, a transfer to their fierce rivals would be nothing short of explosive. It’s hard to imagine, but Fichajes even claims OM are willing to make a financial effort to bring him in — a bold move considering the club’s limited budget.
That said, OM president Pablo Longoria has shown before that he can bend wage structures for star players — as he did for Aubameyang, Sanchez, and Kondogbia.
Currently earning around €160,000/month at Santos, Neymar also keeps 90% of his image rights, boosting his real income to nearly €800,000/month. To join Marseille, the Brazilian would need to make a significant financial sacrifice — and would ironically reunite with Adrien Rabiot, his former teammate at PSG.
A crazy idea… but not impossible
The original source remains shaky, but TyC Sports gives the story a new level of credibility. OM haven’t commented publicly, but according to insiders, some within the club are dreaming of this blockbuster signing.
Neymar at Marseille? It would be a first — and potentially the biggest shock of the summer transfer window. One to watch closely.
