Nico Williams wants to join FC Barcelona. The 22-year-old winger has informed Athletic Bilbao of his intention to leave the club and sign with the Spanish champions this summer, according to El Chiringuito and Fabrizio Romano.
Williams has already reached an agreement with Barça on a contract running until June 2031. To finalize the move, the Catalan club will need to trigger his €58 million release clause — approximately £49 million.
Barça to pay in July, in full
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona plans to pay the clause in full starting July, due to accounting reasons. Athletic Bilbao has refused any negotiations or installment payments, even if the overall price would be higher.
Despite interest from Bayern Munich, Barça remains confident. After missing out on the player last summer, the Catalans are now in pole position to land one of Spain’s brightest young talents.
