Habib Beye has arrived at OM… and he’s breaking the mold! Especially when it comes to salary. He has agreed to cut-rate wages.
Far from the spotlight and the XXL paychecks of Roberto De Zerbi, who earns €550,000 per month, Habib Beye joins Marseille with a completely different profile. The former Stade Rennais coach was earning around €90,000 per month in Brittany, already far from the top Ligue 1 salaries.
Beye Accepts Lower Pay to Lead OM
But the most surprising part is that the Franco-Senegalese coach reportedly accepted an even lower salary to take charge of OM! A bold choice, almost unthinkable at this level, which says a lot about his motivation. However, La Provence, which revealed the information, did not specify the exact amount.
Committed to the Marseille club and ready to take on the challenge, Beye is betting everything on the sporting project rather than the paycheck, even though his contract is considered “long” for a mid-season arrival: it runs until 2027. It is also reasonable to assume that performance-based bonuses have been included.
“The appointment of Habib Beye, a top-level coach who also maintains a historic link with OM, refocuses us on the challenges we still have to face between now and the end of the season,” said Frank McCourt after officially confirming Beye’s arrival at OM.
