Olympique de Marseille had their sights set on Ivan Perisic (36), who dazzled last season at PSV Eindhoven with 16 goals in 35 appearances. But the deal ultimately fell through — and now we know why.
According to L’Équipe, talks broke down due to the Croatian winger’s high salary demands. Sporting director Medhi Benatia was reportedly unwilling to break OM’s wage structure, despite Perisic’s impressive profile and experience.
Perisic stays put
Instead of moving to Ligue 1, Perisic has decided to extend his stay at PSV. Meanwhile, OM have shifted focus to Igor Paixão (Feyenoord), who is now considered the top priority for the winger role. But Leeds United are also in the race — competition is heating up.
