A year after nearly leaving for just €15 million, Rayan Cherki has officially joined Manchester City in a deal that could reach €42.5 million (around £36 million). The Lyon academy product takes a massive leap in his career, now set to work under Pep Guardiola.
After a brilliant 2023–2024 season—with 12 goals and 20 assists in 44 appearances—Cherki silenced his critics and caught the attention of Europe’s elite. City, impressed by his creativity and flair, quickly moved to seal the deal with OL.
A lucrative deal for Lyon
The transfer includes a fixed fee of €36.5M, with an additional €6M in bonuses. Lyon also secured 15% of the profit from any future resale—a smart move for a player whose contract was set to expire in a year, despite an automatic extension clause.
Cherki: “A dream come true”
In his first statement as a City player, the 20-year-old shared his excitement: “Joining Manchester City is a dream come true. I want to grow under Pep Guardiola. I would never have left Lyon without believing in this project.”
Cherki will now gear up to represent Manchester City at the Club World Cup, stepping into a new chapter on the world stage.
