According to Cadena Ser, club president Florentino Pérez has identified Manchester City’s midfield general as an alternative.
The Spain international, who was developed at Atlético Madrid, could be lured back to La Liga if the Madrid project appeals to him.

Recent moves suggest Madrid are aiming to “Spanish-ize” their squad. After bringing in Fran García and Joselu, and targeting Álvaro Carreras, Dean Huijsen and Zubimendi, adding Rodri would further cement this identity shift.
A natural leader for Spain and one of the best in his role, Rodri fits perfectly into the vision of a more nationally rooted Real Madrid.
