Real Madrid are pushing hard to sign Álvaro Carreras, the 22-year-old Spanish left-back currently at Benfica.
According to Sky Sports, an agreement in principle has already been reached with the player, who is Xabi Alonso’s top priority for the left-back position.
Talks are ongoing with Benfica, who have set Carreras’ release clause at €50 million. Real Madrid are hoping to negotiate a lower transfer fee.
One key obstacle remains: Manchester United still hold a buy-back clause on their former player. A resolution with the English club will be necessary before any deal can be finalized.
