FC Barcelona finally returns to Camp Nou this weekend. A historic moment, two and a half years after the start of the monumental construction work. But behind the emotion of the “return home,” another reality hits the supporters: the monumental inflation of prices.
They need to recoup the one and a half billion euros from the project. As a result, this Monday, Barça put more than 16,000 tickets reserved for members on sale, and the prices have shocked all of Catalonia.
Members, who already pay €219 per year, discovered prices deemed… “not affordable” by the Spanish press (understatement). The minimum price is €199, with prices increasing progressively. One must pay €589 for seats in the central stand… All this “with a 20% discount,” but with an additional €2.50 processing fee.
Welcome to the new era of Camp Nou – or rather, Camp Very Expensive.
And for the VIPs? Hold on tight
The club also offers its “VIP Premium” seats. No need to be a member; just have a solid bank account: €850 for the front row behind the goals, €1,050 for areas near the benches, and €1,500 for the presidential box.
The renovation of the stadium is not yet complete, but the prices seem fully operational already.
45,000 seats available… and an urgent need for money
Barça has received the green light from the city hall to host 45,000 spectators, but not yet from UEFA for Champions League matches — a stadium change mid-season is required.
Behind the scenes, the club remains in a delicate financial situation: construction delays, multiple debts, and falling revenues during the exile in Montjuïc…
Returning to Camp Nou is vital: Barça needs its stadium to breathe financially.
“We are coming home,” the club wrote. Yes… but a home where the rents have just exploded.
