Paul Pogba’s career could have taken a very different turn: according to L’Equipe, Paris Saint-Germain had been monitoring him long before he became a global star.
Paul Pogba had never set foot in Ligue 1 before 2015. Yet he could have shaken up the French championship at the very start of his career. In 2012, Leonardo, then sporting director of Paris Saint-Germain, had already identified Pogba’s exceptional potential.
PSG’s Long-Standing Interest in Paul Pogba
At the time, the French midfielder was nearing the end of his contract with Manchester United. However, Juventus had moved ahead and successfully signed him on a free transfer during the summer of 2012, according to L’Equipe.
Four years later, when he returned to Manchester United for a record-breaking transfer fee, PSG remained attentive to the Frenchman’s situation. His name also resurfaced in 2022, before his move back to Juventus.
But by then, Paris had changed its strategy. Internally, some executives believed the club’s policy of targeting global superstars was showing its limits. As a result, PSG decided not to pursue the discussions any further.
