Despite Bayern Munich’s historic attacking season, Vincent Kompany refuses to get carried away: the Bundesliga goal record does not interest him. Bayern Munich are in unstoppable offensive form. With already 97 goals scored after 27 matchdays, the Bavarian club is rapidly closing in on the historic record of 101 goals set during the 1971–1972 season.
Following the emphatic 4-0 victory against Union Berlin, Vincent Kompany nevertheless tempered the excitement during the press conference. The Belgian coach clearly stated that records are not among his priorities.
Kompany Focused on Performance Over Records
“I think we’re going to break this record, but…” he said. “I’m not the kind of person who talks about records. It doesn’t really interest me. I think we’ll break it, but I have other priorities: never forgetting our strengths and using them on the pitch, regardless of the opponent.”
With seven matches still to play, Bayern seem ideally positioned not only to break the record but potentially to shatter it. The question now is just how far the Bavarians will push the limit.
