Zinedine Zidane already looming in the background, Didier Deschamps irritated? Comments from French Football Federation president Philippe Diallo have reportedly stirred tension within the national team, according to L’Équipe.
Zidane’s arrival as France head coach now feels almost official. The subtle hint that he could take over after the World Cup has not gone unnoticed—especially internally, where it has not been well received.
Tensions Rise Over Zidane Succession Talk
According to journalist Damien Degorre, Deschamps and his squad reacted poorly upon seeing the front page of L’Équipe focused on Zidane before their departure. Their frustration, however, was not directed at the newspaper, but rather at Diallo.
The FFF president is being criticized for reigniting the topic during a crucial preparation period. “They weren’t upset with L’Équipe, but more with Diallo,” the journalist explained. He outlined two possibilities: “Either he didn’t realize it, and that’s a mistake. Or he did it intentionally, and that’s also a mistake.”
As a result, attention has shifted away from the team’s preparation. “He didn’t anticipate that all the questions would be about Zidane… and for a dress rehearsal before a World Cup, you can do better.”
