Olympique de Marseille are already preparing for a major revolution. As Habib Beye’s departure looks increasingly likely, a surprising new name is already gaining traction internally: Julien Stéphan.
Habib Beye is not expected to survive OM’s catastrophic end to the season. Goodbye and thank you to the coach who only arrived in February. Now the big question remains: who will replace him?
Marseille Targets a New Coaching Project
According to several sources, future Marseille sporting director Grégory Lorenzi wants to quickly bring in French coach Julien Stéphan to launch a new project this summer. A verbal agreement reportedly already exists between Lorenzi and OM to replace Medhi Benatia as sporting director.
Available from July 1 following his spell at Queens Park Rangers, Julien Stéphan is seen as an attractive option for Marseille. His profile is appreciated internally, particularly because of his Ligue 1 experience and his ability to quickly handle a high-pressure environment.
But the former Rennes manager is not the only name on Marseille’s shortlist. Bruno Génésio and Christophe Galtier are also being considered by the club’s new leadership. One thing already seems certain: OM want to close the Habib Beye chapter and begin a brand-new cycle this summer.
