A surprise press conference was held at Real Madrid as Florentino Pérez responded to growing criticism after the club’s trophyless season. The Madrid president announced new presidential elections in order to “defend the socios” and strengthen his legitimacy.

Florentino Pérez went on the offensive in front of reporters. The Real Madrid boss quickly addressed his critics: “I regret to inform you that I will not resign.” Pérez believes he has become the victim of “campaigns against the interests of Real Madrid and against me,” while reminding everyone of his mission since 2000: “that the owners of the club should be the socios.”

Pérez fires back at media and opponents

Clearly irritated, Pérez also responded to rumors regarding his health: “Some say I am ill, that I have terminal cancer (…) I am in perfect health.” The Real Madrid president also highlighted the strength of his company, “50 billion in annual revenue,” to show that he remains fully committed.

The Spanish executive then targeted several media outlets, notably ABC and Relevo, accusing them of spreading “lies” about him and the club. Pérez also defended his record: “Under my presidency, we have won 37 football titles and 29 basketball titles.”

Finally, Florentino Pérez sent a clear message to his opponents: “Whoever wants to run against me should do so.” Before concluding: “I am not leaving. I will be the last socio to leave.”
