The Nathan Aké saga took a rather strange turn on Friday. Fenerbahçe officially announced that they had signed the Manchester City defender, before the English club quickly moved to cool things down. According to the Citizens, the transfer is not yet fully finalized.
The Turkish club had nevertheless communicated very clearly, claiming they had reached an agreement and signed a contract with the Dutch international. Fenerbahçe even specified that Nathan Aké, currently involved with the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup, would join the squad in Austria after his rest period.
Manchester City remain cautious over Aké transfer
But Manchester City’s version is more cautious. According to Sky Sports News, no definitive agreement has yet been completed between the two clubs. Talks are said to be positive, however, and the English club’s hierarchy still expects the transfer to be officially confirmed soon.
The deal is expected to be worth around €8.2 million, with bonuses potentially taking the package close to €9.9 million. It is a relatively low fee for such an experienced player, but one that can be explained by his sporting situation at Manchester City.
Having arrived at the Etihad Stadium six years ago, Nathan Aké enjoyed an extremely successful spell in terms of trophies. With Manchester City, the left-footed defender won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, two League Cups and one Champions League. An impressive record, but no longer enough to guarantee him a major role in the squad.
