Jean-Michel Aulas has moved to clarify his position following reports of tensions surrounding the appointment of the next France head coach. In a message posted on X, the French Football Federation vice-president gave his version of events and insisted that he was not questioning Philippe Diallo’s handling of the process.
The former Lyon president instead criticised the leaking of discussions intended exclusively for members of the Executive Committee. Didier Deschamps’ successor is due to be approved by the Comex next Tuesday, only a few hours before the official presentation. Zinédine Zidane is widely expected to take charge of Les Bleus, although the Federation has yet to confirm his name publicly.
Aulas Mainly Condemns the Comex Leaks
Aulas had initially expressed surprise that the invitation to the extraordinary meeting had been sent only a few days in advance. His comments, made during an internal exchange, were interpreted as direct criticism of Philippe Diallo’s methods. However, Aulas explained that his main concern was the disclosure of confidential discussions. He questioned how exchanges strictly reserved for Comex members could have reached the media and warned that the Federation could only operate smoothly if trust between its members was respected.

The former OL chairman also revealed that he had held a lengthy and constructive conversation with Diallo to ease the situation. He praised the FFF president for handling the succession process seriously and preparing for the national team’s future. In his X post, Aulas said he remained surprised by the leaks from a committee made up of many responsible members, suggesting that a smaller consultation process might have better protected both the appointment and the Federation.
Aulas finally expressed his excitement about welcoming the man expected to be Zidane. After the “extraordinary period” experienced under Deschamps, he said he was delighted that an “exceptional personality” was preparing to open a new chapter in the history of Les Bleus. “I will be very happy to see him again and support him in this new adventure,” he concluded.
