The name has been circulating for months. This time, Nicolas Anelka says it out loud: in his view, the future head coach of the French national football team will be Zinédine Zidane.
Anelka drops the bombshell: Zidane is coming to Les Bleus. Speaking to Cadena SER, the former striker did not hesitate: “I don’t know if it’s official, but I think it will be Zidane. Everyone says it will be him, and it’s the best choice. He proved it at Real Madrid.”
Zidane Emerges as the Leading Candidate for France Job
This strong endorsement further reinforces the growing trend. With Didier Deschamps set to step down after the 2026 World Cup, Zidane appears to be the natural successor.
According to several sources, including Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement is already said to exist between the 1998 World Cup winner and the French Football Federation. President Philippe Diallo had even mentioned a possible announcement around March or April, before slightly backtracking and clarifying that it would more likely come after the World Cup, so as not to disrupt Didier Deschamps’ American campaign. Barring an unlikely twist, the countdown has begun. Zizou is edging closer to Les Bleus.
