Volkswagen Mocks OM Over “Stolen” Logo

Olympique de Marseille has unveiled its new logo… and as often happens, it’s already sparking strong reactions. But most notably, Volkswagen has openly mocked the club.

A modern logo… or recycled from the past? The Marseille-based club now features a redesigned emblem aimed at being more in tune with the times. The club opted for a cleaner, more readable version of its historic badge. The “M” now takes center stage in the graphic concept, with freer lines meant to evoke wind, the sea, and the vibrant energy of Marseille.

A Controversial Redesign That Sparks Debate

In its official statement, Olympique de Marseille emphasized an identity created for the “Blue and White People,” with ambitions to shine far beyond the Stade Vélodrome. The result is a minimalist, more modern logo that still retains elements of its historical identity.

However, while the club speaks of boldness and heritage, public reception has been far more divided. Some praise a timely evolution, while others criticize a design they see as overly simplistic, even soulless.

The sharpest reaction came from Volkswagen, which didn’t miss the chance to troll OM on Instagram with a biting punchline: “Friends from Marseille, bicycle kicks usually happen on the pitch”… before adding, “Forever the first with this logo.”

The logo also bears a striking resemblance to the well-known blogging platform WordPress, prompting further mockery online. Logically, many now expect WordPress itself to join in on the jokes.

Hardly revealed, the new crest is already dividing opinions and fueling debate. Whether it’s a calculated marketing move or an unintended communication stunt, OM has achieved one thing: getting people talking. Now the real question remains—will fans embrace it or reject it? For now, rejection seems to be leading.
