Invisible in attack against Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool suffered a 2-0 defeat without ever troubling the French side. Left on the bench, Mohamed Salah was not brought on by Arne Slot, a decision fully backed by the Dutch coach.
Salah being rested sparked a small controversy for Arne Slot. Outplayed in every aspect by PSG, the Reds never managed to find a breakthrough. Despite their clear lack of attacking efficiency, Mohamed Salah remained on the bench—a surprising call, yet one firmly defended by his manager.
A Tactical Decision Driven by Match Context
“If we had performed better, if we had more possession, it would have made sense to bring on Mohamed Salah to make the difference,” explained Slot. He emphasized that the flow of the match, largely dominated by Paris, did not suit the introduction of his attacking star.
Liverpool spent most of the game defending, unable to push forward. Under those circumstances, Slot chose to preserve his key forward. “If we have to defend as much as we did, then it’s better for him to keep his energy for the weekend.”
A strategic decision ahead of the upcoming league clash against Fulham, where the Egyptian international is expected to return to a central role.
