Former PSG right-back Serge Aurier has firmly rejected the idea of joining Olympique de Marseille — even when he was without a club.
Speaking on the Kampo podcast, the Ivorian international revealed that Marseille’s director of football, Mehdi Benatia, reached out with an offer, but he immediately declined.
“Benatia spoke to me, but I told him clearly I wasn’t interested, even though I didn’t have a club. I’m very loyal. I’d rather not eat than sign for Marseille,” Aurier said. “It’s a matter of principle. I’m a Parisian, I grew up in the Paris region, I couldn’t bring myself to sign with Marseille.”
Serge Aurier is not Adrien Rabiot
Aurier, who played for PSG between 2014 and 2017, made it clear his loyalty lies firmly with the Parisian club. His stance contrasts sharply with that of Adrien Rabiot, another PSG product, who always kept the door open to Marseille — and ended up signing with them last summer.
