Pedro Neto will indeed be on the pitch at Stamford Bridge against PSG: UEFA has not imposed any sanction on the player, who had pushed a ball boy.
During the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain (5-2) last Wednesday, Pedro Neto (26 years old, 7 Champions League appearances this season) lost his temper late in the match by pushing a ball boy. The gesture immediately triggered the opening of a disciplinary procedure by UEFA.
UEFA chooses leniency after the incident
Many expected a sanction. However, the European governing body ultimately opted for leniency. In a statement released this Monday, the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body announced that it had simply issued a warning to the Chelsea winger.
There will therefore be no suspension for the Portuguese international, who escapes any sporting punishment. Neto will be available for the return leg against PSG on Tuesday at Stamford Bridge, much to the relief of the Blues. The decision, however, is likely to spark debate.
