Author of five goals in Ligue 1 this season, Olivier Giroud continues to bring his experience to Lille. The 39-year-old center-forward, who joined last summer, will however see his contract come to an end at the close of the season. After Lille’s 2–1 victory away at Rennes, the French scorer spoke about his future.
Discussions Expected Soon With Lille
The former Arsenal player explained that the time has not yet come to make a decision. “For now, the discussion with the club will come soon. At the moment, we are focused on the upcoming matches,” he said to RMC.
Giroud also admitted that the support from fans can influence his thinking. “The applause? Of course it makes you want to continue. As long as you can play and the conditions are right, you have to enjoy it,” he explained, while remaining cautious about his physical abilities.
The French striker also emphasized that several factors will weigh into any final decision. “All the conditions must be right, everyone must be confident, and the club must have needs,” he added. It now remains to be seen what position Lille will take regarding the future of their veteran forward.
