Defeated by Paris Saint-Germain on penalties (2-2, 1-4 on penalties) this Thursday during the Trophée des Champions, Olympique de Marseille came very close to an achievement. Beyond the frustration, De Zerbi mainly wanted to emphasize the content and performance of his players. “The second thing I told the team is that we must always demand this type of performance from ourselves,” he explained, before detailing what he saw on the field: “Today, there was everything that should be asked for in a football match: the play, the defensive part, the character, the technique… Everything a strong team needs to win, Marseille had.”
Despite the defeat and immense disappointment, OM comes away with certainties. This painful evening should serve as a stepping stone for the rest of the season, with the hope of transforming this content and mindset into results in the second half of the season.
