Karim Benzema did not hold back on spending. The 2022 Ballon d’Or winner revealed this Sunday the purchase of a painting by Pablo Picasso, a Portrait of a Bearded Man painted in 1964, with a simple yet meaningful message: “Welcome home.”
The exact price remains secret, but the figures are dizzying. Picasso’s works regularly exceed one million euros at auction.
The price remains a mystery
Some pieces even reach stratospheric heights: more than €30 million for a portrait of Dora Maar, €23 million for Bust of a Woman, and up to $139 million for Woman with a Watch in 2023 at Sotheby’s.
Recently exhibited in a highly sought-after New York gallery, the work acquired by Benzema clearly fits into this ultra-luxury market. Further proof that the Al-Ittihad striker, recently seen at the Louvre, is now also investing in art… at a very high-end level.
