Alexander Isak endured a real nightmare on Saturday night with Liverpool. Coming on at half-time against Tottenham, the Swede scored… before seriously injuring himself in the same move, screaming in pain after a tackle from Van de Ven.
The terrible verdict has now been confirmed for Alexander Isak: a fractured fibula requiring immediate surgery, Liverpool announced. No return date has been given, and the striker is expected to be sidelined for many months.
Long-Term Absence Confirmed for the Striker
“The Liverpool forward was injured during a challenge as he scored the opening goal against Tottenham Hotspur and had to be substituted. Following assessment, he underwent surgery today on an ankle injury that included a fractured fibula. Isak’s rehabilitation will now continue at the AXA Training Centre, with no return date yet set,” Liverpool said in a statement.
This injury caps an already difficult first half of the season for Isak, signed for a club-record fee and struggling since his arrival. Recently overtaken by Hugo Ekitike in the pecking order, he now leaves a clear path for the Frenchman, while Liverpool may be forced to recruit a new striker as early as this winter.
