Olympique de Marseille has kicked off an intensive training camp in Marbella in a bid to get back on track. After suffering a defeat in his very first match, Habib Beye already finds himself under immense pressure.
Being hailed as OM’s savior is far from a reality for Beye. Following the departure of Roberto De Zerbi, the former Rennes coach arrived last week to take charge of a club in turmoil. Sporting director Medhi Benatia resigned before being reinstated by owner Franck McCourt, who simultaneously sidelined president Pablo Longoria. The Spaniard, understandably unwilling to stay under such circumstances, is now negotiating his exit.
Marbella Training Camp Aims to Revive Marseille’s Season
On the pitch, results remain troubling. After the 2-0 defeat in Brest, the new Olympique de Marseille manager made a bold call: take his squad to Marbella for a training camp. The clear objective is to spark a reaction and steer the team back in the right direction.
From the final whistle, Beye made it clear he expects a response from his players during this week of work in Spain. The camp is designed to “clear their heads” after another disappointing performance and to rebuild positive momentum away from the pressure of the Vélodrome.
However, the challenge is not purely psychological. The coaching staff also plan to ramp up the physical workload, with several players considered short of match fitness. With the final stretch of the season approaching, this stint in Marbella could prove decisive for Marseille’s campaign — and especially for Habib Beye, whose future may already hinge on the team’s final standing.
