It was a two-sided evening for the France national team in Boston. Facing Brazil in a highly anticipated clash at Gillette Stadium, Les Bleus saw Ousmane Dembélé go from being a key contributor to a source of concern within minutes.
A scare for Dembélé. Impressive from the start, the Parisian winger made his mark with an assist for Kylian Mbappé, allowing France to open the scoring. But the momentum quickly shifted.
Encouraging Signs Despite the Scare
Reduced to ten men after the sending-off of Dayot Upamecano in the 55th minute, the side led by Didier Deschamps then lost Dembélé shortly after. Suffering from a right thigh issue, the PSG player left the pitch in visible discomfort, raising doubts about the seriousness of his injury.
If the initial images suggested a potentially serious muscle problem, the coach quickly reassured everyone. According to him, the injury is “nothing serious,” although medical tests will be needed to confirm this assessment.
In a match already filled with tension, including a knock taken by Aurélien Tchouaméni, Didier Deschamps may opt for significant rotation for the upcoming fixture against Colombia. In the end, it appears to be more fear than harm for Dembélé, but the episode highlights just how fragile the balance of the French team remains.
