The quarter-final between France and Morocco already promises to be fiery. But beyond the sporting stakes, several players will also have to be very careful with their discipline. For France, three Les Bleus players are at risk of suspension if they receive a yellow card: Manu Koné, Michael Olise and Bradley Barcola.
The situation is particularly sensitive for Didier Deschamps. If any of these three players are booked against Morocco, they would automatically miss a potential World Cup semi-final.
Barcola, Olise and Koné Must Keep Their Nerve
It is a real danger for Les Bleus, especially with Michael Olise and Bradley Barcola, two attacking profiles who have been very important since the start of the tournament. Bradley Barcola in particular will have to find the right balance between commitment and caution. The PSG winger is capable of making the difference, but he cannot afford the slightest excess in challenges. The same goes for Michael Olise, valuable in creation, and Manu Koné, often exposed in midfield battles.
Morocco are also heavily affected. Achraf Hakimi, Issa Diop, Redouane Halhal, Azzedine Ounahi and Bilal El Khannouss are also at risk of suspension. For the Atlas Lions, managing yellow cards will therefore be a major issue in a match that already promises huge intensity.
Elsewhere in the draw, several players will also have to avoid a booking. Spain’s Ferran Torres, Norway’s Antonio Nusa, England’s Nico O’Reilly, Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice, Argentina’s Gonzalo Montiel, as well as Switzerland’s Miro Muheim, Granit Xhaka and Denis Zakaria are also concerned. The list of players at risk in the quarter-finals is therefore long, but France-Morocco carries a large part of the tension. Between the historic stakes, popular pressure and the risk of suspension, this quarter-final could be decided as much by nerves as by legs.
