Kylian Mbappé is going through a difficult spell at Real Madrid. Troubled for several months by pain in his left knee, the French striker has seen his situation worsen. The player is expected to be sidelined for several days… or possibly longer.

The beginning of a rift between Mbappé and Real Madrid? Ongoing discomfort had already forced him to miss several matches. Now, he is reportedly dealing with a significant injury that could keep him off the pitch for several weeks.

A major blow for Real Madrid, who must cope without their top scorer in the middle of the La Liga title race and just ahead of the Champions League round of 16. The aim would be a return in around three weeks, with a targeted date set for the second-leg clash against Manchester City on March 17. The club insists, however, that no risks will be taken and that he will only return once fully recovered.

“We want Mbappé back at 100%, and he will return when that is the case,” summarized Arbeloa, Real Madrid’s coach. “We know exactly what is wrong and what we want now: his full recovery. We will see how he progresses day by day. It’s up to him to assess how he feels. For now, it’s better not to set a deadline and let him work through it. We will make decisions afterward. We want him back at 100%, and when he is, he will return.”

Injury Concerns and Growing Internal Tensions at Real Madrid

Internally, questions are emerging over the handling of his medical case. The change of head doctor in January has fueled suspicion in the Spanish press. Some believe the injury may have been misdiagnosed or insufficiently treated as early as December, leading to a worsening condition. Mbappé’s entourage suggests that the player was not clearly advised to stop earlier. According to them, had he been told to take a break, he would have done so.

Behind the scenes, doubts also linger about the true timeline of the injury, with some within the club suspecting it predates the match against Celta Vigo and was not detected in time. According to Sport, Mbappé has now chosen to take matters into his own hands.

During his recovery, he reportedly took a stance against the club and medical staff, and from now on, he will personally decide the timeline of his rehabilitation and return. Medical management issues, unclear communication, and major sporting stakes: the Mbappé case is creating internal tensions at Real Madrid — and this may only be the beginning.
