Back on the FC Nantes bench, Michel Der Zakarian holds no resentment toward Waldemar Kita despite their previous departures. Officially appointed on Wednesday, the Armenian-French coach returns with a clear mission: guide the Canaries back to Ligue 1 this season.
Der Zakarian has buried the hatchet with Kita. FC Nantes is hoping for a fresh start as it aims for an immediate return to the top flight. Dismissed first in 2008 and again in 2016, the experienced manager insists he has moved on. “I’m not resentful. That’s life, there are ups and downs. Like in a family, there can be disagreements,” he said in comments reported by L’Équipe.
Der Zakarian Focused on Promotion
The former Montpellier manager prefers to look ahead rather than dwell on the past. His objective is straightforward: build a team capable of competing at the top of Ligue 2 and securing a quick return to the highest level of French football.
Der Zakarian is also counting on the ambition of Nantes president Waldemar Kita to assemble a competitive squad. He believes the club will make the necessary investments to build a team capable of finishing in the top two places of the championship.
“We need to be strong collectively, solid at the back, and efficient in front of goal,” the new Nantes coach explained. It is a clear message for a club already targeting an immediate promotion back to Ligue 1 following its relegation.
