Wilfrid Mbappé spoke about the so-called “Mbappé project” built around his sons Kylian and Ethan, a concept that has grown in recent years. Appearing on the show Clique, he expressed surprise at how large some of the rumors have become. Unlike certain highly demanding paths in football, the Mbappé journey, he says, was not based on obsession or sacrifice, but above all on enjoyment and fun.
According to him, there was never any structured “Mbappé project.” As the father of Ethan and Kylian, he wanted to push back against the growing trend of parents trying at all costs to turn their children into stars through rigid plans and extreme routines. He stressed that his approach was far more natural and balanced.
A development driven by enjoyment, not pressure
“What is the Mbappé project?” he said. “It’s simply a father supporting his son in a dream, an activity. But then we all have Mbappé projects. I wasn’t waking up at 6 a.m. to run laps around the field, there were no extra training sessions forced on him. I didn’t do all that.”
He also questioned the myth built around his role. “Sometimes I meet parents at the field in jeans, with a whistle in hand, making their kids run laps, shoot, do abs, and they tell me, ‘I’m doing like you.’ I don’t know where that myth comes from. For us it was about having fun, and when it became serious, then we added what was needed because it was going to become his profession,” he explained in the program set to air next Wednesday on Canal+.
