Newell’s has gone on the offensive for Messi. The Rosario club is quietly preparing an ambitious plan to bring La Pulga back in the first half of 2027 — a return to his roots that would go far beyond a simple sporting move.
Trained in Newell’s youth system without ever playing for the first team, Messi remains the club’s ultimate icon. Club leaders now want to turn the dream into a concrete project. Vice-president Juan Manuel Medina confirms that internal work has already begun to make the operation possible.
Rosario pushes to bring Messi home
“We are working on the idea that Leo will play for Newell’s in the first half of 2027,” explained Newell’s Old Boys vice-president Juan Manuel Medina in an interview with Argentine TV channel TN.
Nothing is signed yet, far from it: infrastructure, sporting guarantees, and the overall framework will all have to meet top standards. The main obstacle is that Messi is under contract with Inter Miami until the end of 2028.
But in Rosario, they want to believe — and they are laying the groundwork. By then, Messi’s final World Cup will be behind him, and he may think more seriously about ultimately making the return.
