Invited on RMC, Leonardo didn’t hold back. The former PSG sporting director finally revealed the real breaking point between him and the club: the way Paris handled the Kylian Mbappé situation. According to him, everything happening today — lawsuits, scandals, tensions — all began in 2022. And he’s crystal clear: “Qatar gave him everything. I didn’t agree.”
Leonardo insists: Mbappé didn’t push him out. It was the club’s decision to bend over backwards to keep the French superstar that forced him to walk away.
“He renewed, decisions were made… but I didn’t agree. Under those conditions, it was impossible to continue.”
“I couldn’t stay at PSG anymore”
He says he had no conflict with Doha — just a total disagreement over the club’s direction. And with Mbappé’s entourage, things quickly got complicated: “In the end, we no longer agreed on the contract.”
PSG won the Champions League… after Mbappé left
The irony is almost too big to ignore. The player for whom PSG “sacrificed everything” is now taking the club to court…while Paris finally won the Champions League after Mbappé’s departure.
A twist Leonardo won’t say out loud — but everyone is thinking it. Leonardo doesn’t want drama, but his frustration is obvious. For him, the Mbappé saga was a turning point that cost PSG dearly…and sealed his own exit.
