Is Kylian Mbappé too personally ambitious? Marc Madiot, a prominent sporting director in cycling, is calling on the captain of the French national team to think less about himself and more about others.
Marc Madiot has never been one to mince his words. Everyone in cycling knows it. And in football, Kylian Mbappé has just found out. Speaking on RMC, the pundit did not hold back when addressing the ego of the Les Bleus captain.
Criticism of an overly individual approach
“We’re not being too hard on Mbappé. He’s going down the wrong path; he could be something else! He has everything going for him, so why lock himself into stories about penalties, goals, and records? We couldn’t care less! I don’t like that. He’s a football player in a team,” he said.
He added: “He would grow by adopting a different approach, both with Real Madrid and with the French team. He would be the undisputed number one. He can be something else. If he put more of his talent at the service of the team, he would be untouchable. I like him a lot, but it’s a shame.” Individually, Mbappé has had a strong start to the season in Madrid. However, Real’s collective performances remain inconsistent, and some accuse him of drawing too much attention, to the detriment of the team-oriented style desired by Xabi Alonso—a debate that continues to divide.”
