It is now official: Enzo Maresca is the new manager of Manchester City. As had been expected for several weeks, the Italian coach takes over from Pep Guardiola on the Citizens’ bench.
Pep’s successor was already known, but nothing had been made official. Now it has. Manchester City confirmed on Monday the appointment of Enzo Maresca until June 2029. The English club will pay around €20 million to Chelsea to release the former Leicester manager.
A Strong Return for Maresca
Enzo Maresca already knows Manchester City very well. He previously worked within the club before launching his career as a head coach. In the official statement, the Italian made no secret of his excitement.
“Manchester City is a club I know very well, and having the chance to coach this team is a fantastic opportunity for me,” he explained. Maresca also praised an “incredibly well-run” club, with an “innovative, planned and focused” organization.

“For a manager, this is a dream situation. It gives me the consistency I need to do my job effectively. This will be my third spell here. I know this club, I know the demands and the expectations. The quality of the people working here is what makes this place so special, and I want to thank them for trusting in my abilities. I can’t wait to start coaching the players. I want us to win, play good football and enjoy the pressure of representing Manchester City.” For Manchester City, a new era begins after Pep Guardiola’s departure. For Enzo Maresca, the challenge is huge: keeping the Citizens at the top of English and European football.
