At Real Madrid, Eduardo Camavinga endured a difficult night after being sent off against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final. Punished with a second avoidable yellow card, the French midfielder was singled out following Madrid’s elimination (1-2, 3-4).
Despite the criticism, he was able to rely on support from the dressing room, particularly from Kylian Mbappé. The striker comforted him in the days that followed, showing genuine care and attention.
Support from Mbappé amid mounting pressure
“Did we talk about the criticism with Kylian after the elimination against Bayern? Not really, but even he was affected by it… In the following days, he came to see me in the morning and gave me a big hug. We always hug, but this time you could tell he had empathy for me. It clearly impacted him. When I arrive at training in the morning and people ask me if I’m okay, I always answer ‘we survive.’ And he told me ‘yeah, I understand,’” the former Rennes player told Canal+.
This difficult period is not limited to club football. With the French national team, Camavinga is also going through a turbulent phase. His performance against Colombia last March failed to reassure, and his place for the next World Cup is far from guaranteed.
According to Téléfoot, head coach Didier Deschamps could leave him out. Competing with Manu Koné, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Adrien Rabiot, Warren Zaïre-Emery and N’Golo Kanté, the left-footer currently sits low in the pecking order. If only five midfielders are selected, his inclusion will likely depend on potential withdrawals.
