Having previously played for Olympique de Marseille, Florian Thauvin continues to closely follow the situation of his former club. Now a player for RC Lens, the French winger is concerned about the negative spiral currently affecting Marseille.
Thauvin did not hold back in analyzing OM’s troubling situation. Speaking on Canal Football Club, he highlighted a mental issue within the squad, suggesting that several players appear worn down by constant pressure.
Mental Fatigue Weighing on the Squad
“I think it’s a shame. The two times we faced OM this year, I saw a squad with great quality. When I was there, the squad wasn’t even this strong. So it’s unfortunate things are going this way. A lot has happened this season, and you also have to consider the mental aspect. I feel like I’m seeing players who are mentally exhausted,” the French international explained.
Thauvin believes that a string of poor results, combined with numerous internal changes, has weakened the team. In Marseille, daily pressure is intense and difficult to handle, which can quickly drag a team into a negative cycle. “There have been quite a few changes, and when you keep losing, you enter a downward spiral. The daily pressure at OM is hard to bear. Not everyone is built to handle that. Right now, they seem to be struggling to find the resources. We hope things will improve before the end of the season,” he concluded.
For the French international, not everyone is equipped to cope with such an environment. Nevertheless, he hopes for a turnaround before the end of the season to prevent the situation from worsening further.
