On Thursday, during the announcement of his 26-man squad, head coach Didier Deschamps confirmed that the captain of Les Bleus, Kylian Mbappé, will take part in the friendly matches against Brazil (March 26) and Colombia (March 29), both scheduled to be held in the United States. This decision was not necessarily aligned with Real Madrid’s preferences.

Recently back from a left knee injury, Mbappé has resumed competition with Real Madrid in the Champions League. Didier Deschamps expressed confidence in his physical condition: “Nothing is impossible, but since a protocol was put in place and respected, he was on schedule. Everything went as planned.”

Amid speculation that his presence might be linked to marketing operations, particularly involving Nike, the coach was unequivocal: “There was no obligation […] for him to be there just for marketing purposes.” He emphasized the player’s intent: “It’s clear that he wanted to be there with us as a player.”
Deschamps also noted that Mbappé is expected to gradually regain full fitness, especially with an important upcoming match for Real Madrid against Atlético. “We’ll first see how he feels after the match against Atlético,” he added. This American tour is part of the preparation for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
