After Olympique Lyonnais’ 3-2 defeat in Marseille, Paulo Fonseca appeared visibly furious on Ligue 1+ microphones. His main target: the refereeing, and in particular the second goal disallowed for Corentin Tolisso due to what he considered a marginal offside decision.

Fonseca was seething. The Portuguese coach did not hold back: “The best team lost.” In his view, Lyon dominated the match, created the most chances, and should have walked away with the victory.

Fonseca Slams Offside Decision After Lyon Defeat

“I must tell you that I am here because I have great respect for your work and for the people who love football. But I don’t want to be here. Totally,” he said, clearly irritated.

Still marked by a previous nine-month suspension for his comments, Fonseca restrained himself from going further in his criticism. But his message was clear: he does not understand the decision to rule out the goal and believes his team was wronged. “The best team lost. We scored three goals today and, no, I won’t elaborate. I was suspended for nine months for that. I’ve reviewed the situation (Tolisso’s second goal) many times, and it’s impossible to convince me there was offside. But that’s how it is.” In Lyon, the frustration remains intense.
