Tunisia have already changed head coach during the 2026 World Cup. One day after their crushing 5-1 defeat against Sweden, the Tunisian Football Federation decided to part ways with Sabri Lamouchi.
After several hours of uncertainty, the decision was confirmed. Lamouchi has been dismissed as Tunisia manager, and the Carthage Eagles have turned to a specialist in emergency missions: Hervé Renard. Available since leaving Saudi Arabia, the 57-year-old French coach is expected in Monterrey on Monday to immediately take charge of the national team.
Renard Takes Charge of Tunisia’s World Cup Revival
According to L’Équipe, Renard will oversee his first training session just hours after arriving in Mexico. He is also expected to be joined by several trusted members of his usual staff, including video analyst Nicolas Baudoin, fitness coach David Barriac, and goalkeeping coach Gilles Le Floch.
Renard will make his debut on the Tunisian bench on June 21 against Japan. It will be his third World Cup leading a different national team after managing Morocco in 2018 and Saudi Arabia in 2022.
Tunisia now hope that the experience and leadership of the two-time Africa Cup of Nations-winning coach can revive a team in crisis and keep their 2026 World Cup campaign alive.
