Zinedine Zidane warns coaches: “If you’re not there for the player, you won’t last.” The former Real Madrid coach revealed his method and success.
Zinedine Zidane provided a very clear vision of the coaching profession. For the former Real Madrid coach, it all starts from a simple and non-negotiable principle: the player is at the center of everything, whether in a club or national team.
“You are there for the player. If you haven’t understood that, you can’t last in this profession,” Zizou summarized, straight to the point. A phrase that encapsulates his method and also explains a large part of his successes on the Madrid bench.
“If a coach hasn’t understood that…”
For Zidane, tactics, group management, or the pressure of the highest level come after the essential: understanding his players, protecting them, and giving them confidence. Without this human relationship, it is impossible to endure over time, let alone at the highest level.
A simple yet powerful reminder at a time when the coaching position has never been more exposed. Some have paid dearly for it, like a certain Xabi Alonso.
