Liam Rosenior has taken everyone by surprise. Even before any official announcement from Strasbourg or Chelsea, the coach himself confirmed his imminent departure. Speaking to the press, he revealed that he had already informed his players. “I’ve had a few conversations with them. They’re very happy for me. With Marc, we talked about the people who are going to come in, and it will be top level.”
It was an emotional moment for the coach, who admits to having “mixed feelings” about turning the page. “There is the joy of having an exceptional opportunity and the sadness of leaving people with whom I’ve built real connections. Tomorrow, I will wake up as Chelsea’s head coach. When you are a young manager and you work hard, these are the opportunities you dream of.”
A Bold Move and a Personal Choice
Rosenior nevertheless clarified that nothing has been signed yet. “I haven’t signed my contract yet. I’ve reached an agreement with Chelsea, but nothing has been made official. I care deeply about this club and felt I had to come here and speak before it became official.” Aware that the timing may surprise, he stands by it. “I know people will say it’s not the right moment. But the next person, at a very high level, will keep this club moving forward. I will always have connections with David, Marc, and the next coach.”
He then explained the reasons behind his decision. “I’ve always been honest with Marc. It’s an immense pride to go to this club. I had other offers before, but I was focused on my mission here. There are moments in life when you have decisions you can’t say no to. Strasbourg is a club I will love all my life, but I couldn’t refuse this offer at this moment in my life. It gives me the chance to go back home, to be close to my family. I miss my children; I made a sacrifice. No one can question my attachment and my integrity.”
Finally, he recounted the whirlwind timeline of the past few days: “On Saturday, I didn’t know what was going to happen. Then I was allowed to speak with one of the biggest clubs in the world. Today, everything is on track for me to be the next Chelsea manager.”
