Just a few months after taking up his role as Red Bull’s Global Head of Football, Jürgen Klopp is already seeing his future clouded. According to L’Équipe, internal tensions are beginning to surface as sporting results struggle to convince.
Is Jürgen Klopp too laid-back for Red Bull? Appointed on January 1, 2025, the former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool manager is reportedly no longer enjoying unanimous support internally, according to information from Salzburger Nachrichten relayed by L’Équipe.
Sporting Struggles and Internal Tensions at Red Bull
Although Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull’s CEO, denies any rift and insists he is “satisfied with Jürgen Klopp’s work,” disappointing performances from RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg are fueling criticism. In the Bundesliga, Leipzig remains off the pace in the race for Champions League qualification, while Salzburg exited the European stage earlier than expected.
Jürgen Klopp is also said to be considering Real Madrid. According to L’Équipe, he has been minimally involved in decisions at Paris FC, where Red Bull holds a minority stake. Not consulted over the appointment of Antoine Kombouaré, he reportedly did not use his network to suggest alternative candidates.
Internally, the German is believed not to be fully fulfilled in his new role and is already contemplating a return to the bench as early as this summer. Oliver Glasner’s name has been mentioned as a potential successor. With Real Madrid reportedly interested, Klopp appears ready to walk away from Red Bull and return to coaching.
